Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men's fraternal organization.  Thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on March 29, 1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity.

There are two councils that serve the community of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

The Walter Pollard Council #5480 is a regional council serving the Newport News parishes.

The San Francisco de Assis #11781 is a regional council serving the Hispanic community of Newport News.

Update:  the 500-pound Christmas Food Drive

Thank you to the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Knights of Columbus for their work in our greatly exceeding the 500-pound Christmas Food Drive goal for the Virginia Peninsula Food Bank. On December 12, 2020, Walter Pollard Council 5480 delivered almost 800 pounds of food to the Food Bank. And thank you to all families that supported the Fish Fry on December 13, 2020 that  netted over $400 to assist people with intellectual disabilities though the Virginia State Council charity, KOVAR. Without the generous support of our council Knights and our Our Lady of Mount Carmel church parishioners, the Council could not help the needy in our community.
